Ovarian reserve

AMH test — your ovarian reserve, explained without the panic.

Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is the best single marker we have of how many eggs are still in the runway. It's stable across the cycle, so you can draw any day.

What AMH does well: place you on an age-banded curve, time fertility planning, flag premature ovarian insufficiency early. What AMH cannot do: predict whether you'll conceive this month, or measure egg quality. our health specialists reads it in context with FSH, estradiol, LH and thyroid.

How AMH is read

AMH is reported in ng/mL or pmol/L. Age-banded reference matters far more than the lab's generic 'normal' column — a 'normal' AMH at 38 looks very different from 'normal' at 28.

AMH alone is rarely the whole story. We pair it with FSH, LH, estradiol (cycle day 2–5) and AFC if you have imaging — and our health specialists translates it into what it actually means for your fertility window.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Still unsure? Email hello@getherform.com.

Does a low AMH mean I can't get pregnant?+

No. AMH measures quantity, not quality. Many women with low AMH conceive naturally. It changes how you plan, not whether you can.

Can I test AMH on the pill?+

Yes — AMH is one of the few hormonal markers that stays reliable on combined oral contraceptives. It may read slightly lower; we factor that in.

Standalone AMH or full Fertility Insights?+

AMH alone gives you the runway estimate. The Fertility Insights Package adds FSH, LH, estradiol, prolactin, thyroid and iron — the picture you actually need to plan around.

How often should I retest AMH?+

AMH declines gradually — roughly 6–10% per year on average — but the rate is highly individual. We generally recommend retesting annually if you're actively planning, or every 6 months if your initial result was in the low-normal range.

What if my AMH result comes back very low?+

A low AMH changes how you plan, not whether you can conceive. Many women with low AMH conceive naturally or through IVF. The next step is usually a full fertility consult — Robyn can help you understand what the number means for your specific situation and what to ask a reproductive specialist.
